Nevada's off-road riding takes place against a backdrop of high desert, alkali flats, and volcanic mountain ranges that characterize the Great Basin. Sand Mountain Recreation Area, managed by the BLM, is the signature destination — a single massive sand dune rising over 600 feet that draws dune buggies, sand rails, ATVs, and motorcycles from across the region. Outside of Sand Mountain, BLM land covers a significant portion of the state, giving riders extensive open access on everything from graded desert roads to technical rocky terrain. The climate is generally dry and the riding season long, though summer heat at lower elevations can be extreme.
