Humboldt-Toiyabe NF OHV

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest encompasses 6.3 million acres of Nevada and a portion of eastern California: the largest national forest in the contiguous United States, covering a vast geographic range from the Ruby Mountains and East Humboldt Range in Elko County to the Spring Mountains (Mount Charleston) southwest of Las Vegas, with scattered units across the Basin and Range province of central and western Nevada. The OHV trail system operates on designated routes throughout the forest's seven ranger districts in one of the most geographically complex national forests in the country, a forest divided into isolated mountain range units separated by the broad, sage-covered valleys of the Great Basin. The Ruby Mountains Ranger District east of Elko provides the most spectacular high-country terrain: the Ruby Mountains, known as the 'Alps of Nevada,' rise to 11,387 feet at Ruby Dome and support a dramatic cirque-and-glacier-lake landscape rare in the Basin and Range, with designated OHV routes in the surrounding forest providing access to the range's flanks outside the Ruby Mountains Wilderness. The Austin and Tonopah districts in central Nevada occupy the Toiyabe Range, Arc Dome Wilderness margin, and Monitor Valley, remote Great Basin mountain country where the isolation is near-complete and OHV riders have access to the authentic Nevada outback. The Spring Mountains (Mount Charleston) unit southwest of Las Vegas reaches 11,918 feet at Charleston Peak, providing pine forest riding within an hour of the Las Vegas Strip for the 2.2 million residents of Clark County.
