  Great area for dispersed camping. Check weather for high wind conditions, they can reach up to 65 mph or more. We had to properly stake and use extra guy lines to anchor our 10 man canvas tent. We had no issues as long we did this and parked our vehicle at the tent at the appropriate location. There is potable water nearby at the rest area and it’s from fresh, cool mountain spring water. The roads are jagged and narrow in some areas to be careful not to bring a low profile car as you can bottom it out and possibly cause damage to it. There are cacti so be mindful where you take your pets. Be advised that there are also wildlife and they tend to come out during dawn and dusk. Oh and that strange mysterious noises you hear that you can’t quite make out-they are nighthawks…yes, nighthawks not a bear nor bull moose. Keep all of your food stored in tight containers and never leave your site dirty and full of trash. It will destroy the natural habitat and ecosystem. Do not shoot at the coyotes nor any wildlife because there are many campers throughout the area. We didn’t camp near any of them bullets can travel far. We had one issue with humans while we weee on day 3. They tried to break into our vehicle while we were in the tent. They stabbed one tire and I went outside and caught them. They were kids and had walked from another site. I spoke to their parents and had them learn how to put a spare tire on and how to replace destructive boredom with activity, such as picking up debris and trash ( from them) from the trail. I don’t think this happens regularly. The regulars take care of this place and keep it beautiful. Out of towners who know nothing about camping and camping etiquette often learn the hard way. Parents don’t bring your kids along if they are destructive and you can’t teach them about manners and respect. Besides this, I would absolutely recommend this place. My wife is a Botanist / Scientist so we went there for a study of the local plants and weather conditions that play a crucial role in how these plants survive and evolve as well as diseases. The drought was in effect so it was dry for the entire stay.

  Access road was closed during last visit, great area for off-grid camping

  Good place for RV Camping. It is the national forest, bring your own water and electricity.

  My family and I love camping here or even just spending the day cruising mountain roads!
