Oakey Mountain OHV Trails

Oakey Mountain OHV Trails offer 9.2 miles of two-way off-road trail in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Rabun County, Georgia, the northeastern corner of the state in the southern Appalachians, adjacent to Lakes Burton and Rabun in one of North Georgia's most scenic recreation corridors. The 9.2-mile system is smaller than other Georgia USFS OHV areas but delivers quality over quantity: intermediate to steep-rocky terrain on red-clay and rock surfaces that typify the Blue Ridge at this elevation, with the surrounding Rabun County lake country visible from the higher trail sections. Trail bikes and ATVs with axle widths under 50 inches are permitted, the tight mountain terrain makes the narrow vehicle restriction both practical and enforceable. A 6-site developed campground located approximately 100 yards from the trailhead provides camping at $10/night, with a picnic area and a vault toilet, a rare on-site camping option for a Georgia USFS OHV system. Day passes are $5/operator, annual passes $50, payable at the trailhead or through Recreation.gov. The system is open from mid-March through December 31, sunrise to sunset. Lakemont and Clayton are the nearest supply communities, with full resort amenity infrastructure around Lakes Burton and Rabun available for visitor services.
