Montessa Park OHV Area

Montessa Park is a 577-acre City of Albuquerque Open Space OHV area at 3615 Los Picaros Road SE, on the southern edge of Albuquerque near the Isleta Pueblo boundary. It is the only designated off-road vehicle area in the Albuquerque Open Space system, a critical local resource given the city's size and the absence of nearby national forest OHV systems within easy commuting range. Terrain is open high-desert: hill climbs on sandy and rocky slopes, sandy wash corridors, and dry river-bed surfaces from the old Rio Grande terraces, no formal trail routes are marked, giving riders full open-terrain navigation within the designated boundary. The open format rewards riders comfortable with route-finding over those seeking clearly signed loops. ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, and other OHVs are all permitted; riders must carry current registration and proof of insurance. Riders under 18 are required to wear helmets and must hold a valid safety permit. No advance reservation is required.
