  Fun, technical, demanding trail! I wasn’t expecting the long, steep climb that begins the trail, but it’s a nice warm up to the obstacles. I would for sure suggest having a spotter with you to help navigate some of the rock formations. And use an off-road app to prep for the trail. The trek is worth the journey once you get to the top. And if you have time, lots of places that you can hike too. Be sure to follow the one way sign on your way back down.

  We survived the hike. What an experience. We loved watching the Jeeps climb. And checking out the old mine ghost town.

  The Colorado Off Road Enterprise (CORE) based out of Buena Vista had a work day with the Eagle-Holy Cross District (NFS) installed new winch anchors at the following locations; The Gate Keeper, French Creek and Cleveland Rock. We also repaired the buck n rail fence at Holy Cross City that someone had vandalized earlier this summer. Reminder that Holy Cross and trails like it are under current threat of closure because if people doing illegal things, like; going off trail, creating by passes around obstacles, leaving trash, etc. In Colorado please remember to Stay the Trail, Tread Lightly and Leave Mo Trace!

  To start, I want to thank David and Melissa for their pic's. Omg, the memories you brought back! David, your pic of the large entry info sign. Melissa, your pic of the "beyond this point" sign. I remember looking at a friend who came to visit from NJ. I smiled, she smiled, I said I like a challenge, let's go! We made it to a point where a very large pine had fallen. She wanted a picture, so we got out and took some. The one I remember the most is her standing under the vehicle between the bolders we were on. I got turned around, and we headed back down. As we came to the parking lot(area), I noticed jeepers with their jaws on the ground. Interesting, we stopped to chat. We talked and talked and talked ............ about how I was able to take a 1981 three door hatchback up there and back without a problem. Ohhh, ....... I forgot to mention, it was a BU(boo), Subaru, that is! 🙏🥳 There's nothing like a BU with 4hi and 4lo and front wheel, till you "need it!" I am a Subaru driver who takes great pleasure in watching jeepers jaws hit the ground. As a good off-road enthusiast knows, it's not the vehicle. It's the mind of the person driving it. Im glad to see some things haven't changed. I was there in the mid 90's, this excursion was July of 95'. I lived in Leadville and worked in Vail. That BU liked Mosquito Pass.
