Uwharrie OHV
The Badin Lake OHV Trail Complex in Uwharrie National Forest is the only public OHV or motorized trail system in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. The complex offers 9 designated trails totaling approximately 17 miles, marked with orange diamond markers for two-way traffic. Permitted vehicles include mountain bikes, e-bikes, dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, side-by-sides, and full-sized four-wheel drive vehicles. Trails range from easy to extremely difficult; the eastern end of the Daniel Trail is rated extremely difficult and is not recommended for ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, or stock 4WD vehicles. Horseback riding is not permitted except at designated trail crossings. The system operates 24 hours during open season. The Forest Service does not tow disabled vehicles from the trails. Brown Mountain OHV
The Brown Mountain OHV Trail System in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina, is the only OHV area within Pisgah National Forest, offering 34 miles of designated trails. Trails are primarily designed for trail bikes and ATVs; Jeeps and four-wheel drive vehicles are restricted to Trail 8 and part of Trail 1. Restrooms and picnic facilities are available at the trailhead. The season runs from April 1 through January 1. Children under age 8 may not operate ATVs or motorcycles; riders under 16 require adult supervision. Helmets and eye protection are mandatory. No passengers are permitted on ATVs unless the vehicle is manufacturer-designed for passengers. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the trail system. The noise limit is 99 dBu. Fees are $5 per vehicle per day or $30 for a seasonal pass. Managed by the Grandfather Ranger District.
Brushy Mountain Motorsports
Brushy Mountain Motorsports Park is a private off-road riding facility set in the mountains outside Taylorsville, North Carolina, approximately 70 miles northwest of Charlotte. The park spans over 1,700 acres and offers more than 100 miles of marked single and double track trails ranging from mild to challenging. Riders on dirt bikes and ATVs can tackle Trail 1, a continuous 25.5-mile route, or branch onto return trails to shorten their ride. Side-by-sides up to 64 inches wide are accommodated on double track, with width restrictions in place for bridge clearances. Camping options include primitive sites and RV sites with limited power hookups. Third-party dirt bike rentals and guided side-by-side tours are available through affiliated operators. Trail conditions are tracked in real time, and the park supports integration with the OnX Offroad app.
